Watershed Ecology Project
Collecting our Data and Conducting our Investigation
Monday, September 21______
Day 1
Agenda:
Assignment =
- We may be outside on any given day over the next few weeks - dress appropriately - we are outside for most of the period.
- An Introduction to your Watershed Ecology Project. Please navigate to the Project instructions and guidelines. Once there, quietly read the first 2 pages of the instructions to yourself. When you finish, do the Primary Knowledge Probe. Be prepared to share your questions when called upon.
- How to be successful on this project:
- Be prepared every day to be outside with the proper clothing for the days weather
- Be organized by having all your materials here at the beginning of class.
- Be on time ~ we need to walk to most of our destinations and I will not wait for you.
- Apply yourself to the investigation, this may be the most demanding project you have done so far in school, but all of you are capable of great results. Its better to do a little work every day vs. an enormous of amount of work in less days
Assignment =
- Complete the Primary Knowledge Probe - be prepared to discuss your responses
- Complete article 1 in the Secondary Knowledge Probe on Macroinvertebrates.
- Homework - complete article 2 and 3 in the Secondary Knowledge Probe and BRING A JOURNAL TO WRITE IN AND CLOTHING TO BE OUTSIDE FOR TOMORROW.

Dealing With Data
Wednesday, October 7____________
Learning Target =
- I can identify patterns in data and draw conclusions using evidence from investigations.
Agenda:
- Please open Practice Data and Graphing.
- Graph Choice Chart. How do you know when to choose a pie chart vs. a line graph vs. a scatter plot.?
- Using the Practice Data and Graphing spreadsheet and the Graph Choice Chart choose and create the appropriate charts for the 1st example (endangered species part A and B). Try the second graph (sunspot activity). How could you make the chart asked for?
- Class Discussion of your results. Be prepared to share and discuss your chart choices.
- What graph choices make sense for the data collected in your watershed project?
- The expectation will be for all data collected to be represented in some form of table or chart or both.
- Individual Student Work Time ~ Continue working on your project . You may choose to write, make charts, find maps - just be productive.
- Before leaving today, Submit your Watershed Outline Assignment in Schoology. I will give you some feedback and a progress grade and then unsubmit your document. You will need to resubmit the document on Friday.
Thursday, October 8_____________
Data work continued - Making Shared Charts and Graphs of your watershed data
Data work continued - Making Shared Charts and Graphs of your watershed data
- Spend time with your chemical and physical data group of today and create graphs following the guidelines in these directions. Period 1, Period 4
- Each group should create at least 2 charts/graphs with summaries as outlined in the directions and add them to the shared document in your groups specific area.
- All students will have access to theses charts and you can either use them or edit them (or create your own if you wish).
Friday, October 9_______
Agenda:
Agenda:
- Continue working on your paper following the outline instructions. Your goal was to write your Introduction, Prediction and Materials and Methods sections of your project papers by this past Wednesday.
- When that is complete, begin your Qualitative and Quantitative data sections. fInsert charts and graphs from the documents you created yesterday. Period 1, Period 4
- Insert maps and photos. Make maps similar to the sample to the right using Google Drawings. This is map of the 3 locations you have conducted research. (Create your own rather than taking a screen shot of this one).
- Hit the submit button today so that I can grade your progress up to this point
Go to Schoology and check the Daily Agenda for ALL Remote Learning for the week of Oct 12 - Oct 16
TBD - PEER REVIEW
- Begin by sharing your document with the assigned person as a view only. Then proceed to peer review their document filling in all portions of the document that are completed. Peer Review Form
- I'm looking for your to check appropriate boxes and to add comments as well - follow the instructions.
- When finished, staple the 2 forms together and hand them in before the end of class.
